It is the name I give to building against the default settings of modern technology. Not anti-technology — the opposite. A commitment to making tools, systems, and spaces that increase agency, legibility, and real human capacity.
This site is where that practice becomes visible: through field notes, technical systems, curated signals, and experiments in how technology might serve people instead of quietly shaping them.
The organism below is the map — four forces that shape everything I build. They are not categories. They are alive simultaneously. The work only makes sense when they are connected.

Values
Technology should make people more capable, not more dependent. AI and data systems have real stakes — they shape what people see, decide, and believe. Design should be legible, non-extractive, and honest about who can be affected by it. “Design like AI can hurt someone” is not a slogan. It is a design requirement.
Craft
This is where data pipelines, reporting systems, AWS, Snowflake, Airflow, ELT/ETL, integrations, dashboards, and cloud-native applications live. The technical work is not separate from the philosophy — infrastructure shapes what people can see, decide, and do. If the pipeline is broken, the decision is blind.
Ground
The ocean, handpan, vegan practice, California, Long Beach, art, culture, family, and community are not identity tags. They are the lived environment that shapes the work — what I pay attention to, what I care about protecting, and what reminds me that technology only matters in service of actual life.
Community
Cortex Collective, local gatherings, Long Beach, and culture-building are part of the same practice. Counter Infrastructure is not just software — it is also about creating spaces where people can think, build, and connect outside the default internet. Technology in service of real people, in real places.

I work in data engineering and analytics — pipelines, cloud systems, the unglamorous plumbing that decides what an organization can actually see. But I don't experience that as separate from the rest of my life. The same instinct that makes me care about a clean data model makes me care about who gets to understand it.
Outside the terminal, the work is grounded by the ocean, by the handpan, by a vegan practice, and by the people building culture in Long Beach. Those aren't hobbies bolted onto a résumé — they are the reason the technical work has a point. They keep me honest about who any of this is for.
Counter Infrastructure is how I hold all of it together: a way of building where ethics, systems, roots, and community are treated as one organism rather than four separate jobs. This page is a field document for that practice — not a pitch.
